Boo-la Cafe (aka Don't Believe the Hype)
Um, hi, everyone on Yelp, Metromix all of you who voted for Lula Cafe as best restaurant in the Best of Chicago 2008 reader poll. Did you all just get out of prison? Just begin eating again after having your jaw wired shut for a month?
Because I don't get it. At all.
I ate there this weekend, and this is what happened: Marc got the Wisconsin trout and I got the pork loin from the specials menu, entrees that were about $30 each. The fish was blander than a tongue depressor, and, judging from the layer of blubber encasing my meat, I think some farmer must have accidentally slaughtered a baby seal masquerading as a pig. You know how that sometimes happens.
Oh, but the lima beans were nice.
So there's that.

mmm. I love lima beans... but I don't think that excuses the rest of the food! I also went to a food establishment today on the "Best" list and was not blown away.
I lol'ed at "a baby seal masquerading as a pig." Perhaps Lula is some kind of endangered animal meat speakeasy and password is pork?
I like Lula for breakfast, but I think their dinners are just meeh.
I love lima beans too, but $30 buys a whole freezer full, not the redeeming 3 on my plate. Shan, when can we go to Fish Keg? We can live blog it!
Cherry, I've heard that's the case. I may (cross your fingers) be moving to Logan Square in a few months, so I'll give it another go for brunch.
