But I have a plant called a
night-blooming cereus that only blooms one night a year each summer. This summer was the first time it bloomed. It's so magical to be in posession of a plant that bursts forth with a huge, beautiful flower--and so quickly you can see the petals unfurl in front of your very eyes. It has a gorgeous smell too. If it blooms next year, I'm going to get crazy horticultural club grandma and host a party in its honor.

P.S. Just posted these pictures now because Mike, who took them, just sent them to me the other day.
