Like sands through the hourglass, so are the days of our lives

I love terrariums. Marc and I have had a few that have been going strong for about two years now. Well, I just replanted one of them, but we're not going to talk about that. It really upsets me when my plants die--I feel like a huge failure.

I don't go in for those super-expensive models that are 12 inches tall and cost about $4,000. Just get an apothecary jar from Target--or better yet at a garage sale or thrift shop--and do your thing.

I would, however, like to know how to make this awesome sand magic happen: I just saw this on Apartment Therapy, so I clicked over to the Naughty Secretary Club to check it out (please be sure to look at the rest of the awesome pictures. A swan made out of poured sand? Consider my mind officially blown). Apparently, I need to track down Sand Painting for Terrariums and Aquariums by Dr. Herbert R. Axelrod 1975. Duh. Off to eBay.

Speaking of, I've always wanted one of these mod terrariums:
But I'm not about to pay $165 on eBay for it. You can, though!

It's so fun to make terrariums out of thrift store jars- they are always way cooler then the mass produced stuff.

Check out my blog for tips and links to how-to pages for terrarium making!

Thanks! I could use your help. One of mine isn't doing so hot these days. I think it's not getting enough light.
